Reaches 12,500 Registrations
Inaugural Race Set to Sell Out; Less than 2,500 Spots Remain
(Jan. 19, 2007, ATLANTA) – With less than 10 weeks to go until race day, the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon announced it has surpassed a milestone of more than 12,500 registrations from runners, walkers, and wheelchair athletes for the Sunday, March 25 event. With less than 2,500 spots remaining, the event is expected to sell out in early February.
“The popularity of the inaugural race, coupled with Atlanta’s typically-mild spring weather, has helped us to exceed expectations in terms of filling the race so quickly,” said Victoria Seahorn, race director of the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon. “Over the last 30 days, we have seen a significant rise in the number of registrations as people are eager to be part of what promises to be a spectacular marathon and half marathon.” Once 15,000 applications are received (total includes both the marathon and half marathon), the field will be closed for 2007.
To be part of the state’s largest long-distance running event, interested participants can register for either the marathon or half marathon online at (www.inggeorgiamarathon.com). Registration fees include race entry, a unique commemorative inaugural medal, a Mizuno technical training shirt, a commemorative marathon poster, and many other goodies that will be available only to those participating in this first-time event. In addition, all registered participants qualify to participate in a performance and environmental study being conducted by Georgia State University.
